Cryos' IUI catheters

IUI-catheters (Intra-Uterine Insemination) are used for inseminationAlle tre katetre lodret.jpg
of purified spermatozoa into the uterine cavity. This method increases
the chances of pregnancy by up to 4 times compared to vaginal insemination, as the spermatozoa is deposited closer to the egg. IUI is normally the first and most cost-effective step in a fertility treatment.

A high quality IUI-catheter must be soft, thin, flexible and the right length - preferably with marks to measure the depth. In cases where the uterus is anteflected it can be difficult to penetrate the stenotic region into the cervix with a soft and floppy catheter. Catheters with a guidewire solve this problem as they are stiffer, and can be shaped to make penetration easier.

All the catheters are double-lined transparent polyethylene tubes. The double lumen outside tube of each catheter is polypropylene. The protruding inner lining forms a very flexible tapered catheter with two opposite distal side ports. A proximal Luer-Lock allows for connection with a syringe. The position of the apertures allows deposition of the sperm in the vicinity of oviducal ostia.

MiniCat

The small diameter of this catheter reduces the residual volume, or dead space, to one tenth the volume of standard catheters. This is particularly desirable when performing inseminations with limited specimen volume. The small O.D. of this catheter also offers a high degree of flexibility and facilitates atraumatic access to the uterine fundus.
Residual volume: 0.05 ml.

FlexCat

Because of the inner “guide wire” (mandrel/stiletto) penetration of the cervix is easy – also if uterus is anteflected. The guide wire is removed before insemination. Although the larger O.D. of this catheter offers a small degree of rigidity to be of assistance in cannulating the cervix, its flexibility facilitates atraumatic access to the uterine fundus.
Residual volume: 0.38 ml

GuideCat™

This catheter includes both a separate tube for the sperm and a fixed “guide wire” in the catheter wall so that penetration of cervix is easy – also by anteflected uterus.
Residual volume: 0.35 ml.

Each catheter is wrapped in irradiation sterilized packs and delivered in packages of 25 catheters.
