Hereditary diseases

• Karyotype (46,XY)
• Sickle cell anemia **
• Familial mediterranean fever **
• Gaucher's disease **
• Thalassaemia **
• Cystic fibrosis **
• Tay-Sachs disease **
• Canavan's disease **
• Familial dysautonomia **
• Congenital Adrenal hyperplasia **
• Carnitine transporter deficiency **

* Only for the UK and USA standards
**If the donor belongs to a race or is from an ethnic group where the frequency of these diseases exceeds 1:5000 (1 per 5000 births), the donor is tested to see if he is a carrier. This applies for all donations received after 1 September 2010. Before that date the donors were only testet for these diseases if the doctor found it necessary or if it was required according to one of the Standards.
*** If the donor is from or has travelled in a geographic area where these infectious diseases are widespread and if it is required according to a Standard, the donor will be tested.
